QWAK,sort of SPOOKEY!
 

QWAK,I just got back from town a little over an hour ago and I get this automated call from Discover card FRAUD prevention dept. --- I hold the line and in a fiew moments a nice lady askes my name and if I have used my card recently. I said I had and she ticked off every stop I made right down to my Whopper and frys at Burger king! She said the new "FRAUD prevention" soft ware had picked up some unusual use and that is why I was called to verify the purchases.

The ONLY thing that was even slightly diferent was two charges at the "GAS N GO" ware I filled the truck with gas and filled up 5, 5 gal. cans of Desal and charged it seperately.

They have never called before so somthing has changed obviously!

What is SPOOKEY is how FAST they called after I used my card ,with in 2 hours of my last charge on the card. Also it feels sort of CREEPY having them know every thing I did today! :no_ma:

I am wondering if perhaps there has been a sea change at all the banks and the next BIG thing to hit the fan will be CREDIT CARD defaults (Dirivitives agen) like what is happening in housing? If so them horses been gone from the barn LONG ago and have been runing wild wile the barn dun burned down! :wink::sarc:

I agree. If they were the Feds you would be in jail by now.

Good to see you posting. Haven't heard from you in awhile. DogFarm feels like lonely as the only farm animal talking about himself in the thrd person.

When I first got my GM CC (the only one I own) about 12 years ago, I was called a few years later when I bought a computer. They said it was unusual activity (which it was)

I have made so many purchases since, I don't get calls anymore.
I do pay them off at the end of the month BTW. NO balances!

Hey Duck,

Was it a card that you hadn't used for awhile? That's standard for Discover. As for knowing all your purchases, are you really surprised? Its all electronic.

they are just looking to cut potential losses to the bank. i charge a lot of gasoline in my delivery biz. when i started to use the discover card, got the same call, had previously used another. guess they have to do this because of the amount of dullards walking around with plastic who have no idea. view a card as a form of magic. yeah i pay off every month. just don't like to carry cash in some of the hoods i drive in. just cut up 3 of those suckers, probably get a slew more offers in mail soon. good to know how to avoid being tracked tho. take the bus or train, pay cash.

It's happened to me when I've ordered something from England and again when I ordered something from Australia (oddly, however, it didn't happen when I placed an order to a country in the Middle East). That was about 5 years ago. It happened to me last summer, too, when I had to use the card to prepay (from Atlanta) for limo service from the airport to a convention center in Texas, then had to use the card in Atlanta a couple of hours later. That time, they denied authorization. I had to call them later to find out what was going on.

i get that on a regular basis usually long periods of inactivity followed by multiple fuel purchases same day when it is moving time and i use cc to
buy fuel often times they will put a hold and i have to use debit feature.
which is a pain if you have a load of bees on and they want you to go inside and talk to the attendant.

In August I had to go to Michigan due to a death in the family.

Upon returning home I found a message on the answering machine from Discover Card. They said they were going to freeze my account unless I called them about the account. All because I charged 2 nights at a motel.

QWAK,It would seem that calling is SOP but having them lock out the card if you don't call could be a big problem if you are not home and have to buy the things you need.

I had not realised things have gone this far so soon.

Instent money can also be instent POVERTY if you don't have CASH back up but then it sort of makes having the card a moot subject.:confused_ma:

I supose the whole country going to feel that way when China and all the others stop lending --- I wonder WHO gets that call? :wink:

Last time I went Amtrak and paid cash they required photo ID. I was going to Canada, maybe domestic is different.

The only way to travel semi anonymous is afoot or on your blacked out bicycle and wear baggies and a hoody to hide your face from all the spy cams.
